Darcy's Bridle Shower

I remember when Darcy was my maid of honor and would ask me questions about my bridal shower, but always spell it 'bridle' shower.  You know you are dealing with a horsey girl when those two are confused and naturally when I started planning Darcy's shower, that was one of the first things that popped into my mind.   

So, on Sunday, May 13, we held Darcy's 'Bridle' Shower at Aspen Dale Winery at the Barn in Delaplane, Virginia.   The venue used to be an old horse farm that was converted into a winery.  They still have horses and ponies on site and one of the barns was remodeled into a tasting room - and as Darcy is a fellow wine-lover - it fit perfectly into the equestrian equation.  The venue was perfect - they had a canopy tent outside with lots of tables and chairs.  We arrived at opening and snagged the tent to set up our festivities.

Invitations were previously sent to the group requesting attendees to wear derby attire (aka - sun dresses and big hats) and the bridesmaids and I brought a smorgasbord of food and drinks for the group.  Everything was horsey/derby themed: we played a horse race game, there was a prize for best hat (which my mom won), the bride wore a white floppy hat with a veil, mini horseshoes decorated the various tables, bridles were hung from the canopy, and horse themed food was served. 

We started the festivities with a tasting, then we moved the party outside to eat some food, drink some wine, socialize, play some games, and open presents.   The day turned out to be gorgeous and not a drop of rain.  

Darcy was so kind and brought flowers for all of the mothers there - how thoughtful. 

Only a few more weeks until the wedding!  I can't wait and am so happy for Darcy and Brian :-)
